Abigail Johnson

Abigail Pierrepont Johnson was born on the 19th of December 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Edward C. Johnson III, with whom she runs Fidelity Investments, the family controlled mutual funds company.

Abigail Johnson finished her secondary education at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School. Later on, she earned a degree in art history from William Smith College. She spent 2 years as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton before she obtained her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School in 1988.

She went to work at Fidelity in 1988 as an equity portfolio manager, running the machinery and automation stocks and overseeing sector funds. Abigail Johnson became the president of company’s mutual fund division from 2001 up to 2005. In 2008, she began managing the Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services. She is currently a member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation. She is also a member of the board of directors of Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Fidelity Management and Research LLC, known as Fidelity Investments, is one of the world’s biggest mutual fund groups. The company was founded in 1946, serving North American investors. Founded in 1969, Fidelity International Limited (FIL) is an international affiliate serving countries across the globe.

In 2004, the company handled an astounding $893 billion in assets on the mutual-fund market through Abigail Johnson’s leadership. She is considered the most significant woman among the elites of American financial executives. However, throughout her success, Abigail Johnson has shunned publicity and hardly ever offers interviews.

Abigail Johnson used to have the largest share at Fidelity Investment, more or less 25%, before she sold a significant part of it to family trusts. She is currently 5th in Forbes’ list of the world’s wealthiest women.

Abigail Johnson is married to Christopher J. McKown and has two children.
