Gerry Harvey

Australian entrepreneur Gerry Harvey serves as the current executive chairman of the large Australian company, Harvey Norman Holdings Ltd. At present, the company runs the Harvey Norman retail chain, an establishment founded by Gerry Harvey and his partner Ian Norman.

Gerry Harvey was born on September 18, 1939 in Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales. Gerry Harvey entered the business world by selling fridges and vacuum cleaners. In the years that followed, Gerry Harvey worked hard until he became cofounder of Harvey Norman, a large retailer of entertainment, electrical, computer, furniture and bedding goods. The company, which was founded in 1982, also owns several other bulky goods retailers and small businesses such as Joyce Mayne and Domayne.

As one of the company’s cofounders and key executives, Gerry Harvey maintains a very hands-on approach when it comes to his retail business. He often serves as a spokesman in several radio advertisements for his retail company. In addition, he also provides commentaries regarding several economic and business matters for television media, as well as for the national press.

Apart from his retail business, Gerry Harvey is also highly involved in breeding race horses. In fact, today, he is known as one of the world’s largest breeders, owning more than 600 thoroughbreds.
