The current director, chairman of executive committee, and chairman of equity compensation committee of Wal-Mart Stores Inc, Lee Scott, has also been the president as well as the chief executive officer of the US-based public corporation between January 2000 and January 2009. Aside from being headquartered in North America, Walmart also operates internationally in the United Kingdom as Asda, in Mexico as Walmex, in India as Best Price and in Japan as Seiyu. It additionally has wholly-owned operations in Puerto Rico, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina.
Scott, who is now 60 years old, has been working for Walmart for 25 years and has had positions in the logistic operations. Holding a total annual compensation of $1,456,000 in 2009, he played a crucial role in the improvement of the company’s distribution network.
Lee Scott has served in various positions within the company since September of 1979: he has been chief operating officer between January 1999 and January 2000 and president, executive vice president and chief executive officer of Walmart Stores Division between January 1998 and January 1999.
Although Lee Scott held various ranks in the early 90s, he started out at Walmart Stores Inc as an assistant director and director of transportation. He then became vice president of transportation, the distribution department vice president and logistics senior vice president. Since 2003, he has been the logistics executive vice president and since 1995, he has been the company executive vice president of merchandise. From January 1999 to January 2000, Scott acted as Walmart’s vice chairman and has been its director since 1999.
In 1995, Lee Scott was an Outstanding Alumni, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Pittsburg State. A Baxter Springs High School graduate, he also completed the Executive Development Programs at Columbia University and Penn State University.
