Jamie Dimon

Born as James L. Dimon on March 13, 1956, Jamie Dimon is the present chairman and chief executive officer of JP Morgan Chase and Company and the New York Federal Reserve Board of Directors Class A director. He was also listed among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2006 and 2009, according to Time magazine.

Dimon was born and raised in New York City by mother Themis and father Theodore Dimon. It was there that he attended Browning School. His Greek immigrant grandfather was a broker and passed on all that he knew to his son and partner, Dimon’s father. His grandfather and father worked together for 19 years, with Dimon holding summer jobs at the partners’ office in New York. Later on, he was at Tufts University studying economics and psychology, prior to receiving a Master’s degree at Harvard Business School with college mates Seth Klarman and Jeffrey Immelt. When he graduated in 1982, Sandy Weill encouraged him to reject offers from Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, where he had worked the previous summer, to join him at American Express as an assistant. Three years later, Weill left American Express and so did Dimon.

Now on their own, the partners took over the consumer finance business from Control Data called Commercial Credit, which became the key to elevate the Dimon and Weill to the top. By 1998, they were able to form Citigroup, the biggest financial services company in the world. He left the company that same year and was named chief executive of Bank One, the fifth largest bank in the US, in 2000. When JP Morgan Chase acquired Bank One in mid-2004, he assumed the position of president of the financial services company.

In 2008, he was appointed board member of the New York Federal Reserve Bank as well as the chief executive officer of JP Morgan. Under his leadership, the company has turned into the top US bank in domestic assets under management, publicly traded stock value and market capitalization value.

Jamie Dimon is currently married to Judith Kent, with whom he has three daughters: Kara Leigh, Julia, and Laura.
