Meg Whitman
Meg Whitman stands her ground as a woman playing in one of the most competitive fields in the IT industry: online trading. She is a former president and CEO of eBay, the largest Internet auction company in the world.
Whitman, who grew up in Long Island, New York, is the product of Princeton University. Two years after receiving her degree, she finished her MBA at Harvard University.
Meg Whitman served various positions on board several different companies before joining eBay in March of 1998. She has held positions at Procter & Gamble, Bain and Company, Stride Rite, Florists Transworld Delivery, and the Walt Disney Company. Upon her involvement with eBay, Whitman became instrumental in the acquisition of several associated companies such as PayPal and Skype.
The admirable business ethics and genius that Meg Whitman displays in a male dominated industry is not all that has set her apart. Her kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all through her generous contributions to her alma mater, Princeton University. The $30 million dollar contribution was used to put up a residential college that became active in 2007.
Since 2007, the year Meg Whitman stepped down as CEO of eBay, she has become more involved in the political scene. In February of 2009, she made known her plans for running for Governor of California in the next elections.
