Roman Abramovich

Roman Arkadievich Abramovich is a businessman from Russia who became a billionaire courtesy of his ownership of the English Premiership football team called Chelsea Football Club. He also owns Millhouse Capital, an investment company, and was the governor of Chukotka, Russia.

Born on October 24th 1966, Roman Abramovich belongs to a Jewish family who called Lithuania their home. He studied at the Industrial Institute in Ukhta prior to joining the Soviet Army. When he got back, he went on to study at the Moscow State Auto Transport Institute but did not finish the course.

Roman Abramovich started his business career by vending plastic ducks from his Moscow apartment. He took on other businesses but later focused on the buying and selling of oil. Together with partner Boris Berezovsky, he purchased a significant share of an oil company called Sibneft in 1995 for $100 million.

In 1999, Roman Abramovich went into charity work in the region of Chukotka. He focused his attention on supporting the youth and instituted the Pole of Hope organization in order to help the inhabitants of Chukotka.

By 2000, he was elected as the region’s governor and invested millions in the establishment of hospitals, educational system and a college institution located in Anadyr.

Currently, Roman Abramovich, dubbed as the second wealthiest person in the UK, lives in West London.
