Sean Hannity

Sean Patrick Hannity is an American writer, television/radio host, and conservative political commentator. He initially garnered fame as the co-host of Hannity & Colmes, a television program of the Fox News Channel. He penned two New York Times bestselling books and is the host of Hannity’s America and The Sean Hannity Show, the second highest rated radio talk show in the United States.

Sean Patrick Hannity was born on December 30, 1961, the son of Hugh J. and Lillian F. Hannity. His forebears were immigrants from Ireland. He spent his early years in Franklin Square, New York. During the late years of the ‘80s, Hannity worked construction jobs in Santa Barbara, California. He also worked as a bartender during those times. He wed columnist Jill Rhodes who works for The Huntsville Times on January 9, 1993. They have two offspring, Merri Kelly and Patrick Hannity.

In 1980, the writer-commentator graduated from St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary, a high school institution situated in Uniondale in Long Island, New York. A purportedly indifferent student, the would be talk show host dropped out of various colleges — including New York University — various times for financial reasons. He eventually decided to pursue a radio career. In 2005, he was awarded with an honorary degree by Liberty University.

At present, Sean Patrick Hannity is a host of a nation-wide syndicated radio talk show broadcasted by WABC (AM), a flagship station situated in New York. He is also the co-host of a Fox News political debate show, Hannity & Colmes, and host of Hannity’s America, which is also broadcasted by Fox News.

Sean Hannity had his first experience in a talk radio show in 1989 when he hosted for a program of KCSB-FM, a volunteer college station of UC Santa Barbara. His weekly show was terminated in less than a year when the station administration nearly dismissed on the grounds of “discriminating against gays and lesbians.” The station later reversed that decision but Hannity decided not to return.

After his stint with the station, he placed advertisements in radio publications that presented himself as “the most talked about college radio host in America.” WVNN, a news-talk formatted radio station situated in Athens, Alabama, hired him. In 1992, he succeeded Neal Boortz and worked for WGST in Atlanta. Hannity’s big break came in September 1996 when Roger Ailes, the found of Fox News, hired him to co-host with Alan Colmes the television program that catapulted him into fame, Hannity & Colmes.

Fortune magazine in 2005 listed Sean Hannity as one of their “25 People We Envy Most.” The talk show host purportedly makes $5 million a year for his radio show alone. He is also the author of two bestsellers. It’s a small surprise that Bob Beckel and Cal Thomas, in their book Common Ground, have state that Hannity is the leader when it comes to matters concerning broadcasting political commentators.
