Warren Buffett
Warren Edward Buffett, the renowned “Oracle of Omaha,” is an American investor and stock market guru. He is famous for being one of the richest men in the world and for successfully leading Berkshire Hathaway. Considered as one of the most successful investors of all time, he also goes by the nickname “Oracle of Omaha”.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 30, 1930, Warren Buffet was the only boy and the second child of Leila and Howard Buffett. His father, a stockbroker, became a member of the congress.
As a child, he already possessed exceptional entrepreneurial skills. He got involved in various dealings that included buying bottles of cola at a lower cost and selling them for a profit. At 11 years old, he made his first investment in the stock market.
He studied at Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania but eventually transferred to University of Nebraska. Afterwards, he got into Columbia University for his masters in economics. This paved the way for him to meet Benjamin Graham, an influential value investor. He eventually worked for Graham’s company called “Graham-Newman” and it was where he was able to enhance his stock market investing skills.
After the Graham retired, Warren Buffett went back to Omaha and started a limited investing fund partnership with his associates, family and friends. Thus, Buffett Partnerships Ltd was born. It gave astounding returns for its investors in a span of over ten years, ten times higher than the Dow Jones Industrial average. He used the fund and purchased the textile company Berkshire Hathaway.
Warren Buffett also shared his earnings by giving more than $12 million each year to the Buffett Foundation.
In 2008, according to Forbes Business Magazine, Warren Buffet became the richest man in the world scratching off Bill Gates’ first place position from the list.
